Indian Air Force Displays Might in Vayushakti-26 Exercise

The Indian Air Force (IAF) showcased its impressive combat readiness and advanced operational capabilities during Exercise Vayushakti-26, held at the Pokhran Field Firing Range in Jaisalmer. Under the watchful eye of India’s President, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, who served as the Chief Guest, the event featured a range of complex air operations that demonstrated the IAF’s prowess across a realistic combat environment.

Among the distinguished attendees were Rajasthan’s Governor, Shri Haribhau Kisanrao Bagde, Defence Minister Shri Rajnath Singh, Civil Aviation Minister Shri Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu, and several military leaders. The event drew participation from various ranks of the armed forces, government officials, both domestic and international media, and even school children, emphasizing its significance as a national demonstration.

Innovative Execution and Realistic Simulations

This iteration of Exercise Vayushakti marked a milestone as it unfolded along a structured operational storyline, resembling a real-life combat theater. The exercise effectively integrated offensive air strikes and air defense missions, coupled with special forces operations and humanitarian assistance, showcasing the IAF as a multi-domain force and the country’s first line of defense.

The proceedings commenced with the National Anthem and a ceremonial flypast by Chetak helicopters that carried the National Flag and Air Force Ensign. A powerful sonic boom from a Rafale fighter set the tone for the high-intensity exercises that followed, reflecting the IAF’s capabilities in air supremacy.

Extensive Participation and Night Operations

In total, over 130 aircraft took part, including notable models such as Rafale, Su-30 MKI, and Mirage-2000. The aircraft executed precise damage simulations on designated enemy targets using sophisticated air-to-ground munitions, underscoring the IAF’s accuracy and firepower.

The exercise also highlighted coordinated air defense operations featuring advanced missile systems like Akash and Spyder, showcasing the effective collaboration between the air force and ground units. The special operations component was crucial, with Garud Special Forces, supported by Para SF, conducting simulated urban interventions and hostage rescues.

As night fell, the exercise continued to shine with integrated air defense maneuvers and precision strikes by multiple aircraft, reiterating the IAF’s capability to dominate the battlespace at all hours. The event concluded with a dramatic ceasefire flypast by a C-17 aircraft and a mesmerizing drone display, celebrating the legacy and achievements of the IAF.

Reaffirming India’s Strategic Deterrence

Guided by the principles of “Achook, Abhedya aur Sateek,” Exercise Vayushakti-26 reinforced the IAF’s operational strategies and technological advancements, affirming its role as a vital component of India’s national power and its commitment to self-reliance in defense manufacturing, exemplified by the President’s earlier sortie in the indigenous Light Combat Helicopter (LCH) Prachand.
