Minister Annpurna Devi Unveils Revamped Hostel at SPNIWCD

The Savitribai Phule National Institute of Women and Child Development (SPNIWCD) has celebrated a significant milestone with the inauguration of its newly renovated hostel building. The Minister of Women and Child Development, Smt. Annpurna Devi, presided over the ceremony on February 26, 2026, marking a key enhancement in facilities meant for the development of women and children in India.

Engaging with Parents and Children

During her visit, Minister Devi engaged in a meaningful dialogue with parents at the Child Guidance Centre and the Adolescent Guidance Service Centre. This interactive session aimed to collect valuable feedback from families utilizing the services, enabling the Ministry to better tailor their initiatives to meet the needs of the community. The Minister also took the time to meet children with physical disabilities, offering encouragement to both the kids and their parents.

Improving Access and Services

Shri Valeti Premchand, Additional Secretary and Director of SPNIWCD, provided insights into the efforts made by the Ministry to significantly reduce waiting times for appointments—shifting from an average wait of six months to immediate availability. He welcomed feedback from parents and assured them that their suggestions would be duly considered and acted upon, demonstrating the Ministry’s commitment to improving service delivery.

Government Support is Valued

Parents expressed their appreciation for the consistent governmental support provided through regular sessions at the Centres. This interaction not only allowed them to voice their concerns but also fostered a sense of community and reassurance regarding the services available for their children.

Investing in Future Generations

In her address, Minister Devi highlighted the Ministry’s recent initiatives designed to improve the overall functioning of the Centres. Emphasizing the importance of investing parental time in children’s development, she reminded attendees that children are vital to the country’s future. She reaffirmed the government’s dedication to ensuring that children have equal rights and opportunities, particularly within educational frameworks.

Advancing Academic Research

Furthermore, Minister Devi inaugurated a Five-Day Faculty Development Programme on Research Methodology, running from February 26 to March 2, 2026. Organized in collaboration with the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), this program aims to enhance the research capacities of the Institute, ensuring that academic training aligns with current policy needs. The Minister encouraged faculty members to continue upgrading their knowledge and skills through such initiatives, reinforcing SPNIWCD’s position as a leading entity in the field of Women and Child Development.
