PM Modi to Launch Major Projects in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to embark on a significant two-day visit to Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, starting on the night of February 28, 2026. This visit follows his previous engagements in Rajasthan and Gujarat, with his arrival in Chennai planned for approximately 9 PM. On March 1, the Prime Minister will unveil a series of development initiatives aimed at bolstering infrastructure and services in both regions, with a staggering investment exceeding Rs. 7,100 crore.

PM’s Agenda in Puducherry

During his visit to Puducherry, PM Modi will inaugurate, dedicate to the nation, and lay the foundation for multiple projects valued at over Rs. 2,700 crore. These initiatives focus on enhancing infrastructure, urban services, industrial growth, and social sectors including education and healthcare. Key highlights include the launch of electric buses under the PM e-Bus Seva Initiative, an Integrated Command and Control Centre as part of the Smart City Mission, and housing projects for economically weaker sections.

Among other projects, the Prime Minister will inaugurate the Composite Engineering Block named after Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam at the National Institute of Technology, Karaikal, and significant upgrades at the Regional Cancer Centre at JIPMER, along with improvements in Pondicherry University facilities. Another major highlight will be the dedication of the 750-acre Karasur-Sedarapet Industrial Estate, which will host various parks and healthcare facilities, aimed at spurring industrial growth and job creation.

Additionally, the Prime Minister is set to lay the foundation for essential water supply initiatives and rural road construction under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), as well as projects that focus on sustainable urban development and power sector enhancements.

PM’s Role in Madurai Development

After his commitments in Puducherry, Modi will travel to Madurai to inaugurate and lay the groundwork for infrastructure projects exceeding Rs. 4,400 crore. At approximately 3 PM, he will address attendees before unveiling several connectivity projects including the four-laning of the Marakkanam–Puducherry and Paramakudi–Ramanathapuram sections of major national highways. These improvements are expected to significantly reduce travel time and congestion, thereby enhancing trade and tourism in southern Tamil Nadu.

Furthermore, the Prime Minister will also inaugurate eight upgraded railway stations in Tamil Nadu as part of the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, providing modern amenities and improved accessibility for passengers. He will dedicate the new Chennai Beach-Chennai Egmore fourth rail line, which will enhance the efficiency of the Chennai suburban network.
