US and India Kick Off Joint Special Forces Exercise VAJRA PRAHAR

A contingent of the US Army has landed in India to take part in the 16th edition of the India-US Joint Special Forces Exercise, known as VAJRA PRAHAR. This significant event is taking place at the Special Forces Training School in Bakloh, Himachal Pradesh, from February 24 to March 16, 2026. The previous exercise was hosted in Idaho, USA, in November 2024.

The Indian Army is represented by 45 personnel from its elite Special Forces, while the United States sends a team of 12 Green Berets from its Special Forces division. This collaboration marks a key moment in the ongoing military partnership between the two nations.

Strengthening Military Ties

The overarching aim of Exercise VAJRA PRAHAR is to bolster military cooperation between India and the United States. The exercise focuses on enhancing interoperability, fostering jointness, and exchanging tactical knowledge in special operations. A critical aspect of this training is to improve joint capabilities for conducting operations in challenging mountainous terrain.

Intensive Training Schedule

During this exercise, troops will engage in a rigorous routine to achieve high levels of physical conditioning and effectiveness in joint mission planning. Participants will execute various tactical drills together, allowing for a seamless exchange of best practices concerning joint mission strategies and special operations techniques.

Building Trust and Camaraderie

VAJRA PRAHAR is expected to deepen not only the operational compatibility but also the mutual trust and professional camaraderie among the Special Forces units from both countries. This collaboration is instrumental in reinforcing the burgeoning defense partnership between India and the United States.
