Western Railway Hits New High with Rs. 1.72 Crore from Film and Ad Shoots in 2025-26
The Vande Bharat Express has become a significant symbol of Indian Railways since its launch in February 2019. Recently, it made its cinematic debut when filmmaker Shoojit Sircar shot a film aboard the semi-high-speed train, marking a milestone for the railway service. Western Railway has reported record earnings of Rs 1.72 crore from film and advertisement shoots conducted on its premises between April 2025 and February 2026, surpassing its previous record of Rs 1.64 crore in 2022-23. This achievement highlights the growing collaboration between the film industry and Indian Railways.
Record Earnings from Film Shoots
Western Railway has announced a remarkable achievement, generating Rs 1.72 crore from film and advertisement shoots on its premises within a span of less than a year. This figure represents a significant increase from the previous record of Rs 1.64 crore earned in the 2022-23 fiscal year. The spokesperson, Vineet Abhishek, emphasized that the railway’s streamlined process for granting film shoot permissions has contributed to this success. Unlike traditional government procedures, Western Railway offers a single-window clearance system, making it easier for filmmakers to obtain the necessary approvals. Additionally, filmmakers can apply through the India Cine Hub, managed by the National Film Development Corporation, making Western Railway the only railway zone included in this initiative.
Notable Film Projects
Several high-profile films have utilized Western Railway’s facilities for shooting. Recently, Ayushmann Khurrana and Sharvari filmed their upcoming project, “Yeh Prem Mol Liya,” at Goregaon railway station. John Abraham also shot scenes for “Maria IPS” at various locations, including the WR Headquarters in Churchgate and Lower Parel railway station. The application for shooting “Maria IPS” was submitted in November 2025. Furthermore, the gripping railway sequence in the recently released film “O’Romeo,” featuring Shahid Kapoor, Nana Patekar, and Triptii Dimri, was filmed on Western Railway property. These projects illustrate the increasing appeal of railway locations for filmmakers.
Locations Popular Among Filmmakers
Western Railway offers a variety of picturesque locations for film shoots, attracting numerous filmmakers over the years. Notable sites include the Churchgate Administrative Office, Mumbai Central Railway Station, and Goregaon Railway Station. Films such as “Sikandar,” “Bodyguard,” and “Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani” have all featured scenes shot at these iconic locations. Other notable films shot at Western Railway sites include “Goodbye,” “Ra.One,” and “Gully Boy.” The diversity of settings available, from administrative offices to railway yards, provides filmmakers with unique backdrops that enhance their storytelling.
Future Prospects
As Indian Railways continues to modernize and enhance its services, the collaboration with the film industry is expected to grow. The successful integration of film shoots into railway operations not only generates revenue but also promotes the railway’s image as a modern and accessible mode of transportation. With the ongoing popularity of the Vande Bharat Express and its cinematic representation, Western Railway is poised to attract even more filmmakers in the future, further solidifying its role as a key player in the Indian film industry.
