The India AI Impact Summit 2026 concluded today at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, showcasing India’s pivotal role in the global conversation about artificial intelligence (AI). Minister for Electronics and Information Technology, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, addressed the media, outlining the outcomes and significant announcements from the five-day event. He was joined by a host of dignitaries, including Shri Jitin Prasada, Minister of State for Electronics & Information Technology, and key spokespersons from the Ministry of External Affairs and the Government of India.
Global Participation Highlights India’s AI Leadership
This year’s summit marked a new milestone in international cooperation on AI, attracting participation from over 20 Heads of Government and 59 ministerial representatives across 118 countries. Over 100 global AI leaders, CEOs, and CXOs also gathered, amplifying the discussions with insights from more than 500 leading AI experts worldwide.
With a staggering turnout of over 5 lakh attendees, the summit underscored the worldwide interest in India’s AI advancements. In the lead-up to the main event, 550 pre-summit activities took place in 30 countries, paired with over 500 side events that expanded the dialogue around AI, marking this summit as one of the most extensive multi-stakeholder engagements in the AI field.
Shri Vaishnaw Celebrates the Momentum of AI Development
Reflecting on the overwhelming global interest, Shri Vaishnaw emphasized the significance of international endorsement for India’s responsible AI vision. He remarked, “The numbers are important, but what is truly important is that the world has confidence in India’s role in the new AI age. The depth of dialogue and global support for our responsible and sovereign AI approach indicate that India is leading this transformation.”
The Minister described this summit as a groundbreaking event for India’s leadership position in the AI sector. He highlighted the active involvement of major global AI stakeholders, significant ministerial participation, and the historic engagement of over 2.5 lakh students, which resulted in a Guinness World Record for youth involvement in discussions about responsible AI.
Investments and Future Vision
In terms of financial commitments, infrastructure-related investments have exceeded $250 billion, with nearly $20 billion allocated for deep-tech ventures. This speaks to the burgeoning confidence in India’s AI infrastructure ecosystem. The summit provided strong international affirmation of India’s strategy for a sovereign AI model, which showcases innovation born from frugality.
Framing these developments within Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s broader ambition for a “Viksit Bharat” (developed India) by 2047, the Minister viewed the summit as a vital step towards enhancing the country’s technological and semiconductor capacities.
