Today’s Gold Prices: Yellow Metal Declines; Explore 24K and 22K Rates in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, and Other Cities
Gold prices experienced a significant decline on Tuesday, dropping over 1% in futures trading. This decrease was attributed to a combination of easing safe-haven demand, improved geopolitical sentiment, and a strengthening US dollar. On the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX), gold for April delivery fell by Rs 2,228, settling at Rs 1,52,532 per 10 grams, amidst a trading volume of 7,553 lots. Analysts suggest that while the market is currently consolidating, the long-term bullish trend for gold remains intact.
Market Analysis and Trends
Gaurav Garg, a research analyst at Lemonn Markets Desk, noted that gold’s recent performance reflects a period of consolidation following volatility. Investors have been booking profits, responding to a firmer US dollar and changing interest-rate expectations from the Federal Reserve. Despite the decline, Garg pointed out that safe-haven demand, driven by weakness in global equities and ongoing central bank purchases, has helped mitigate further losses. He emphasized that the current market phase is more about consolidation than a reversal of trends. The price of MCX gold is currently stabilizing within the range of Rs 1.55 to 1.58 lakh per 10 grams, below previous highs.
In the global market, Comex gold futures for April delivery fell by $119.6, or 2.37%, to $4,926.7 per ounce. Jigar Trivedi, a senior research analyst at IndusInd Securities, indicated that gold prices slipped below $4,970 per ounce due to thin trading volumes, particularly as several Asian markets, including China, were closed for the Lunar New Year. The overall sentiment in the market appears to be shifting as investors reassess their positions in light of recent geopolitical developments.
Geopolitical Factors Influencing Gold Prices
Renisha Chainani, head of research at Augmont, highlighted that easing geopolitical tensions have contributed to the decline in safe-haven demand for gold. She pointed to comments from President Donald Trump regarding indirect US involvement in upcoming nuclear discussions with Iran, which have raised hopes for diplomatic progress. Additionally, renewed talks between Ukraine and Russia have helped to alleviate immediate geopolitical concerns, fostering a more favorable risk appetite among investors.
As risk sentiment improves, some investors are reducing their defensive positions in precious metals. The market’s focus is now shifting towards the upcoming Federal Reserve meeting minutes, which are expected to provide insights into the future interest-rate outlook. Analysts believe that understanding the Fed’s stance will be crucial for investors looking to navigate the current market landscape.
