National Highway-167 Widening Project Boosts Telangana Connectivity
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, led by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, has given the green light for the widening of National Highway-167, stretching from Gudebellur to Mahabubnagar. This crucial upgrade, part of the Hyderabad-Panaji Economic Corridor, will transform the route into a four-lane highway, covering a total distance of 80.01 kilometers. The project is budgeted at ₹3,175.08 crore and will be executed under the Hybrid Annuity Mode.
Travel along the existing NH-167 between Gudebellur and Mahabubnagar is plagued by poor road conditions and significant traffic congestion, particularly in densely populated town areas. To combat these delays, the planned expansion to a four-lane configuration aims to improve the overall travel experience for commuters and freight transport alike.
Enhancing Economic Opportunities
This ambitious project is expected to bring substantial benefits to the Narayanpet and Mahabubnagar districts in Telangana. By improving freight movement efficiency, it is anticipated to lower logistics costs and stimulate socio-economic development throughout the region.
The new highway alignment will connect with two major national highways, NH-150 and NH-167N, facilitating seamless access to crucial economic, social, and logistical hubs across Telangana. The upgraded corridor will enhance multi-modal transport integration, connecting to three PM GatiShakti Economic Nodes, nine social nodes, and seven logistic nodes. This expansive structure aims to foster quicker travel of goods and people across the area.
Job Creation and Employment Impact
Upon its completion, the upgrade of NH-167 is poised to significantly contribute to regional economic growth and strengthen connectivity among major religious and economic centers. The project will not only facilitate trade and industry developments but is also predicted to generate approximately 14.4 lakh person-days of direct employment and 17.9 lakh person-days of indirect employment. Additionally, it will foster further job opportunities linked to increased economic activity along the newly proposed pipeline.
