Major Expansion of National Highway-167 Approved in Telangana

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, headed by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, has given the green light for the widening of National Highway-167. This significant project will upgrade the highway from Gudebellur to Mahabubnagar, extending over 80.01 kilometers on the Hyderabad-Panaji Economic Corridor. The total capital cost for this endeavor is projected at Rs. 3175.08 crore, with construction set to proceed under the Hybrid Annuity Mode (HAM) scheme.

Traveling between Gudebellur and Mahabubnagar on the existing NH-167 has presented numerous challenges, including extended travel times owing to poor infrastructure and congestion in urban areas. The new 4-lane standard project aims to alleviate these issues, streamlining traffic flow through densely populated towns and villages such as Gudebellur, Magnoor, and Makthal. This upgrade is expected to significantly benefit the Narayanpet and Mahabubnagar districts, enhancing freight transport efficiency, reducing logistical costs, and promoting socio-economic growth in the region.

Enhancing Connectivity with Key Economic Nodes

This project will integrate key transportation routes, connecting with two major National Highways (NH-150 and NH-167N) and improving access to vital economic and social infrastructures. It will facilitate multi-modal integration by linking three PM GatiShakti Economic Nodes, nine Social Nodes, and seven Logistic Nodes, ensuring faster movement of goods and passengers across Telangana.

Upon completion, the upgraded NH-167 is set to play a crucial role in stimulating regional economic development. It promises to better link important religious and economic centers while creating new opportunities for trade and industry. The construction of the access-controlled 4-lane highway is anticipated to generate approximately 14.4 lakh person-days of direct employment and around 17.9 lakh person-days of indirect employment. Furthermore, a surge in economic activities around the corridor will create additional job opportunities for local residents.
