Shahid Kapoor’s O’Romeo Marks His Second A-Rated Film, Following Kabir Singh; CBFC Adjusts Content Guidelines

After a successful collaboration on films like Kaminey, Haider, and Rangoon, Shahid Kapoor and director Vishal Bhardwaj are reuniting for their fourth project, O’Romeo. Set to hit theaters on February 13, the film has already garnered significant attention due to its impressive trailer, a captivating soundtrack, and a strong ensemble cast. Recently, the film completed its censor process, and details regarding the changes mandated by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) have emerged.

CBFC’s Rating and Required Changes

*O’Romeo* has received an ‘A’ certificate, marking it as Shahid Kapoor’s second adult-rated film following *Kabir Singh*. Despite the adult rating, the CBFC requested several modifications to the film’s content. Notably, the Examining Committee mandated changes to certain dialogues, including the replacement of the term “Item” with “Kumari.” While additional word replacements occurred in four other instances, specific details about these changes were not disclosed in the cut list. Furthermore, some dialogue was muted, and an inappropriate term was removed entirely.

Violence and Intimacy Adjustments

While the romantic and intimate scenes in *O’Romeo* remain intact, the film did face scrutiny regarding its violent content. The censor board required reductions in several violent sequences. For instance, a close-up shot of throat cutting was shortened by three seconds, while two other shots depicting bloodshed were reduced by two seconds each. Additionally, a scene featuring a woman being slapped was also cut down by two seconds. These adjustments reflect the board’s commitment to ensuring that the film aligns with its rating guidelines while still maintaining its narrative integrity.

Final Runtime and Certification Details

Following the implementation of these changes, *O’Romeo* received its censor certificate on February 11. The film’s total runtime is officially recorded at 178.41 minutes, making it the longest collaboration between Shahid Kapoor and Vishal Bhardwaj to date, clocking in at nearly three hours. In addition to the content changes, the CBFC also mandated the inclusion of anti-tobacco and anti-smoking disclaimers, which added an additional 1 minute and 57 seconds to the film’s overall length.

As anticipation builds for *O’Romeo*, audiences can look forward to experiencing this latest venture from the acclaimed duo of Shahid Kapoor and Vishal Bhardwaj, which promises to deliver both drama and intensity.
