National Institute of Ayurveda Celebrates 50 Years of Wellness Excellence
The National Institute of Ayurveda (NIA) in Jaipur marked a significant milestone today, celebrating its Golden Jubilee and showcasing a rich legacy of 50 years dedicated to Ayurvedic education, research, and healthcare. The anniversary event gathered esteemed guests, including Rajasthan’s Chief Minister Shri Bhajan Lal Sharma, Union Minister of State for AYUSH Shri Prataprao Jadhav, and Deputy Chief Minister Shri Prem Chand Bairwa, along with key officials, academics, students, and other dignitaries.
Since its inception in 1976 as a college, NIA has evolved into India’s first Ayurveda Deemed-to-be University. The institution has made remarkable strides in education and training, research, manuscriptology, and patient care, establishing itself as a leader in the field of Ayurveda.
Celebrating a Rich Heritage
During the celebrations, Chief Minister Sharma praised the institute as a vital link between India’s ancient medicinal practices and modern scientific research. He highlighted that the 50-year anniversary represents not only the passage of time but a journey filled with dedicated service and extensive research aimed at enhancing public health through Ayurvedic practices.
Sharma emphasized Rajasthan’s historical significance as a hub for Ayurveda, rich in medicinal biodiversity and traditional health knowledge. He underscored the State Government’s commitment to bolstering AYUSH systems, promoting the integration of Ayurveda and Yoga into mainstream healthcare for the benefit of the community.
A Vision for the Future
Highlighting NIA’s influential role in education and healthcare, Chief Minister Sharma extended assurances of governmental support for future infrastructure projects and academic advancements. He called the Golden Jubilee a time for renewed determination, urging collective contributions to elevate NIA into a global center for Ayurvedic education and research.
Union Minister Shri Prataprao Jadhav reflected on NIA’s impressive journey over the past five decades, calling it a beacon for Ayurvedic scholars and researchers who have worked tirelessly to preserve and enhance this ancient science. He noted the importance of integrating AYUSH systems into the national healthcare framework under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, including the establishment of new All India Institutes of Ayurveda.
Innovations Launch and Expansion Initiatives
During this significant day, several new facilities were inaugurated to enhance the educational and clinical capabilities at NIA. The Dhanwantari Upvan, a medicinal plant garden aimed at conservation and research, was unveiled. Furthermore, the Advanced Simulation Laboratory and the new Operation Theatre Block were launched to bolster clinical training and patient safety.
In efforts to improve outpatient services, the new OPD Block, named “Sushrut Bhavan,” was inaugurated. To expand its digital outreach, NIA also launched its first official podcast, with the inaugural episode recorded by the Union Minister.

The Golden Jubilee celebration reaffirmed the National Institute of Ayurveda’s commitment to advancing Ayurvedic practices through education, research, and compassionate patient care.
