Central Government Boosts Assam’s Tourism with Major Funding

The Union Government is ramping up its support for tourism development in Assam through a series of financial initiatives aimed at enhancing the state’s tourism infrastructure. This initiative comes under several central schemes including Swadesh Darshan, Swadesh Darshan 2.0, Challenge Based Destination Development, and the Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual, Heritage Augmentation Drive. The Ministry of Tourism is providing crucial financial assistance to the Assam state government, contingent on adherence to the respective guidelines and availability of funds.

Strategic Investment in Iconic Tourist Centers

In addition to the above-mentioned schemes, the Government of India has also launched a Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment aimed at developing iconic tourist centers to a global scale. This progressive strategy targets the comprehensive development and global marketing of prominent tourist destinations within the country, ensuring they attract both domestic and international visitors.

Recent Projects Sanctioned for Assam

During a recent session in the Rajya Sabha, Union Minister for Tourism and Culture, Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, provided updates regarding tourism projects that have received approval for funding. Notably, the government has already sanctioned multiple projects under the various schemes mentioned for the state of Assam, showcasing a commitment to bolstering tourism in the region.

The approved projects span a range of tourism experiences, including wildlife circuits, heritage circuits, eco-tourism enhancements, and pilgrimage development. A detailed list of these sanctioned projects is outlined below:
