Indian Railways Launches Over 1,400 Holi Special Trains
In preparation for the festive celebrations of Holi, Indian Railways has announced it will operate more than 1,410 special trains across its extensive network. This initiative aims to accommodate the anticipated surge in passenger demand during the festival, ensuring smooth connectivity between key destinations. The special services are set to run throughout March, with plans to increase the number of trains up to 1,500 to meet public demand.
During Holi 2025, a total of 1,144 special train trips were successfully conducted, demonstrating the Railways’ commitment to passenger service during this festive period. This year, detailed zone-wise allocations reflect a strategic approach to managing passenger volumes efficiently.
Zone-wise Special Train Allocations
The Central Railway (CR) will be operating 209 Holi special trains. The Western Railway (WR) follows closely behind, planning a total of 231 trains to cater to heavy passenger traffic on its western routes. Leading the operations, the East Central Railway (ECR) will run the highest number of special services at 285 trains, while the South Central Railway (SCR) will provide 160 additional services.
Additionally, the Northern Railway (NR) will operate 108 Holi special trains, and the North Western Railway (NWR) has scheduled 71 trains. To further enhance connectivity, the North Central Railway (NCR) will launch 66 special trains, while both the North Eastern Railway (NER) and the East Coast Railway (ECOR) will run 62 trains each.
Among other zones, the South Western Railway (SWR) has planned 47 special trains, with the West Central Railway (WCR) following with 43 services. The Southern Railway (SR) will facilitate 39 trains, and the South East Central Railway (SECR) will add 15 train services to its itinerary. The Konkan Railway (KR) is set to operate 9 special trains, while the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) will manage 2 special trains to fulfill regional travel needs.
