Indo-US Defense Cooperation Strengthened at 24th Plenary Meeting
The Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully hosted the 24th Indo-US Joint Technical Group Plenary Meeting in New Delhi on February 3-4, 2026. This significant gathering was co-chaired by Dr. Chandrika Kaushik, Director General of Production Coordination & Services Interaction at DRDO, and Mr. Michael Francis Dodd, Assistant Secretary of War for Critical Technologies.
The meeting aligned with the strategic vision outlined in the India-US Major Defence Partnership framework, which was signed by Defence Minister Shri Rajnath Singh and US Secretary of War Mr. Pete Hegseth in October 2025. Delegates at the plenary reviewed the ongoing collaboration in defence science and technology, addressed existing challenges, and discussed new proposals aimed at enhancing cooperation in critical and emerging defence technologies.
Expanding Collaborative Efforts
Key discussions at the meeting centered on increasing the involvement of university-affiliated research centers, defence laboratories, and industry players in joint research and development initiatives. Participants explored potential collaborations between DRDO and the Defence Innovation Unit, facilitated under the Innovation Bridge framework. The gathering concluded with the signing of a project agreement, marking a pivotal step in enhancing bilateral defence cooperation.
Participation and Representation
Senior officials, scientists, and technocrats from the US Department of War and the Department of State were present, along with DRDO scientists and representatives from India’s Tri-Services, Ministry of Defence, Ministry of External Affairs, and National Security Council Secretariat. This diverse representation underscores the commitment of both nations to strengthen their ties in the defence sector.
This plenary meeting not only reinforces the collaborative efforts between India and the United States in military innovation but also highlights a shared vision for the future of defence technologies. As global security challenges evolve, such partnerships are crucial in ensuring that both nations remain at the forefront of defence advancements.
