SAIL Partners with RITES to Boost Logistics Efficiencies
The Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), a renowned Maharatna CPSE, has entered into a significant Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Rail India Technical and Economic Service (RITES), a respected Navratna CPSE. This partnership aims to enhance logistics and operational efficiency at SAIL’s plants and mining operations.
To facilitate smooth transportation of essential raw materials, in-process goods, and finished products, SAIL has established a dedicated mini rail network within its facilities. The company relies heavily on the effective maintenance of its diesel locomotive fleet, along with supplemental support from wet leased locomotives, to ensure seamless operations and promote capacity expansion for future growth.
Expertise and Support from RITES
As Indian Railways shifts more towards electric locomotives, RITES remains a valuable ally by providing essential expertise in diesel locomotive operations and maintenance. This area is crucial for maintaining SAIL’s diesel fleet, enabling the company to meet its operational demands reliably. RITES has access to Indian Railways’ facilities, spare parts, and a skilled workforce, positioning it well to support SAIL’s logistical needs.

This collaboration will allow both SAIL and RITES to hone in on their core strengths. Baisakhiya, Executive Director (Operations) of SAIL, and Shri Sandeep Jain, Executive Director (Technical Services) of RITES, with senior officials from both organizations witnessing the event.
This strategic partnership is expected to not only streamline operations within SAIL’s network but also set a benchmark for future collaborations between the steel and railway sectors in India. By leveraging RITES’ specialized knowledge and resources, SAIL is poised to enhance its logistics framework and support its growth objectives sustainably.
