Future Warfare Course Set to Elevate Military Readiness
The third edition of the Future Warfare Course is gearing up to launch at the Manekshaw Centre in New Delhi from February 2 to 25, 2026. This vital initiative, organized by the Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff in collaboration with the Centre for Joint Warfare Studies (CENJOWS), promises to enhance military education with a focus on modern warfare tactics influenced by rapid technological advancements.
This year’s curriculum is poised to delve into specialized subjects and emerging warfare developments, encouraging participants to rethink established military strategies, concepts, and doctrines. With the ever-evolving landscape of war, the course aims to foster a deeper understanding of how technology reshapes combat, facilitating practical demonstrations of cutting-edge technologies and visits to key defense institutions.
A Diverse Participant Landscape
The course will bring together participants from all three branches of the Armed Forces, alongside representatives from the defense industry, including startups, MSMEs, and private sector companies. Officers ranging from Majors to Major Generals will take part, with junior officers contributing technical expertise while their senior counterparts share strategic and operational insights.
Addressing Modern Warfare Challenges
The Future Warfare Course aligns the operational priorities of the Armed Forces with the capabilities of India’s indigenous defense industry. It aims to create a dynamic forum for discussing various aspects of contemporary and future combat. A diverse group of experts—including veterans, serving military personnel, former ambassadors, industry leaders, and academic scholars—will engage in comprehensive discussions to evaluate India’s security challenges rigorously.
Expanding the Educational Scope
This edition of the course also introduces new topics such as critical and rare earth elements, supply chain vulnerabilities, and the geopolitical landscape affecting future military operations. These subjects highlight the growing complexity of warfare and the need for the Defense Forces to adapt and innovate in their strategies.
Following the successful inaugural course held in September 2024, this expanded program is a step toward realizing the vision of Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan. It aims to equip military officers with the essential skills and knowledge to meet the multifaceted challenges of modern warfare.
