Karnataka Shines at Bharat Parv 2026 with Cultural Showcase
The Government of Karnataka, through its Department of Kannada & Culture, delivered an enchanting display of the state’s cultural splendor at Bharat Parv 2026, an event organized by the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India. Attendees were treated to a spectacular presentation featuring classical dance, music, and traditional folk performances, all highlighting Karnataka’s rich artistic heritage.
Celebrating Folk Traditions
The cultural showcase prominently featured the celebrated folk traditions of Karnataka, as organized by Karnataka Tourism and the state’s Department of Kannada and Culture. Festival-goers were immersed in Karnataka’s diverse artistic expressions, offering them a unique glimpse into the state’s vibrant cultural tapestry.
Powerful Performances
A major highlight of the event was the Dollu Kunitha, a dynamic and rhythmic drum dance that hails from the Shivamogga region. Deeply rooted in the worship of Sree Beeralingeshwara, a manifestation of Lord Shiva, this energetic dance form is traditionally linked to the Kuruba Gowda community. The performance captivated the audience with its synchronized drumming and vigorous movements, beautifully embodying themes of devotion, strength, and community spirit.
Another mesmerizing act was the Pooja Kunitha, a colorful ritualistic folk dance originating from southern Karnataka, particularly in the Mandya, Mysuru, and Bengaluru regions. Dancers showcased their skills by balancing intricately decorated wooden or bamboo structures, often adorned with idols or sacred kalash, all while swaying gracefully to the rhythmic beats of Tamate drums. Traditionally performed in homage to Goddess Shakti, this dance not only reflects devotion but also impresses with its physical prowess and visual extravagance.

The presentation also included the stunning Yakshagana, a unique dance-drama tradition from coastal Karnataka that has a rich history spanning over four centuries. This performance art combines dance, music, theatre, and spontaneous dialogue to narrate mythological tales. Audiences were enthralled by striking costumes and expressive movements, all set against a backdrop of powerful musical performances. This traditional art continues to serve as a cultural ambassador of Karnataka, showcasing the state’s heritage around the globe.
