New UMEED Modules Enhance Waqf Property Management
In a significant move towards enhancing transparency and accountability in the management of Waqf properties, the Ministry of Minority Affairs has officially launched two new modules on the Unified Waqf Management, Empowerment, Efficiency and Development (UMEED) Central Portal. The Survey Module and the Waqf Property Lease Module were introduced on January 30, 2026, marking a pivotal step in digital governance.
The launch ceremony was led by Dr. Chandra Shekhar Kumar, Secretary of the Ministry of Minority Affairs, who was joined by senior officials from the Ministry. These new features aim to create a more accessible and efficient environment for managing Waqf properties across the country.
Introducing the Survey and Lease Modules
The Survey Module is designed to provide a detailed digital framework that allows for capturing, managing, and updating information related to the survey of Waqf properties. This systematized approach ensures that data regarding Waqf assets is accurate and readily available.
Similarly, the Waqf Property Lease Management Module aims to streamline the end-to-end management of leasing information related to Waqf properties. This module facilitates the systematic recording of critical details, including lease duration, financial terms, and other specifics, all within a transparent framework. These enhancements are set to bolster accountability and oversight in the leasing processes related to Waqf properties.
Driving Digital Governance Forward
The introduction of these modules reflects the Ministry’s commitment to leveraging digital tools for better governance and management. Dr. Chandra Shekhar Kumar has called upon all State and Union Territory Waqf Boards to adopt these new systems while also raising awareness among the eligible beneficiaries regarding these advancements.
The UMEED Central Portal, which was inaugurated by Union Minister of Minority Affairs Shri Kiren Rijiju on June 6, 2025, acts as a centralized digital platform. It allows for the real-time uploading, verification, and monitoring of Waqf properties, as mandated by the Unified Waqf Management, Empowerment, Efficiency and Development Act of 1995.
With features like the creation of a comprehensive digital inventory complete with geo-tagging, an online grievance redressal mechanism, and integration with GIS mapping and other e-Governance tools, the portal is poised to revolutionize the administration of Waqf assets in India. Public access to verified records ensures accountability and fosters transparency.
The Ministry of Minority Affairs is actively collaborating with State and Union Territory governments, along with State Waqf Boards, to ensure effective management practices for Waqf properties throughout the nation.
