IICA and NPC Unite for Enhanced Productivity in India

The Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs (IICA) recently welcomed a high-level delegation from the National Productivity Council (NPC), led by Director General Smt. Neeraja Shekhar and Deputy Director General Shri Umashankar Prasad, to discuss potential areas of collaboration. The meeting focused on training, research, productivity, sustainability, and compliance support.

The delegation was received by IICA’s Director General & CEO, Sh Gyaneshwar Kumar Singh, who honored the visiting dignitaries with traditional shawls and commemorative mementos. In his address, Singh underscored the necessity for educational institutions to adapt to the ever-evolving demands of industry, particularly as India strives for the vision of Viksit Bharat, or developed India.

Collaborative Efforts for a Sustainable Future

During the meeting, leaders from IICA presented comprehensive insights into the institute’s roles, outlining its initiatives in education, training, research, and advocacy. These efforts support both governmental and private sector endeavors, aimed at enhancing productivity and compliance across various industries.

Smt. Neeraja Shekhar, during her speech, recounted the origins of NPC, established in 1958 in the wake of India’s independence. At that time, the nation faced limited resources and a pressing need to boost productivity. She highlighted a pivotal delegation that visited Japan, an experience that laid the foundation for institutionalizing productivity initiatives in India.

Expanding Focus and Global Engagement

Since its inception, NPC has significantly broadened its scope, extending its expertise from industrial sectors to encompass agriculture, services, micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), as well as sustainability and ESG-linked initiatives.

Shekhar also emphasized NPC’s active collaboration with the Asian Productivity Organization (APO), which facilitates international exposure, expert exchanges, and productivity benchmarking frameworks. These programs are crucial in assessing industrial readiness, financial capability, and manufacturing maturity—particularly important for MSMEs.

A Joint Commitment to Progress

With a shared vision for the future, both IICA and NPC expressed a strong commitment to collaborate. Blending IICA’s strengths in policy research, training, and advisory services with NPC’s hands-on productivity expertise will propel India’s transformation into a high-income, competitive, and innovative economy.

The event was coordinated by Dr. Naveen Sirohi, Head of the School of Finance and Management at IICA, further emphasizing the importance of this collaboration in shaping India’s economic landscape.
