T20 World Cup: Umpires Announced for High-Stakes India-Pakistan Clash in Colombo
Elite Indian umpire Nitin Menon is set to officiate in his fourth T20 World Cup, while Anantha Padmanabhan will make his debut at an ICC event. The tournament is scheduled to take place in India and Sri Lanka starting February 7. Menon, the only Indian on the ICC Elite Panel, has previously officiated in the T20 World Cups of 2021, 2022, and 2024. He will be joined by fellow Indian official J Madanagopal, who will participate in his second T20 World Cup.
Nitin Menon’s Milestone and Match Assignments
Nitin Menon is currently officiating in the T20I series between India and New Zealand. This Saturday, he will reach a significant milestone by completing 150 international matches as an on-field umpire across all formats, making him the first Indian to achieve this feat. On the opening day of the T20 World Cup, Menon will serve as the on-field umpire for the Group C match between Scotland and the West Indies, alongside Sam Nogajski. Menon has a wealth of experience, having been part of the on-field umpiring team for the first semi-final of the 2024 T20 World Cup, which featured Afghanistan and South Africa.
Sam Nogajski, who officiated in four group matches during the previous T20 World Cup, including a game involving India, will also be making his mark in this tournament. The appointments for the Super Eight and knockout stages of the tournament will be announced at a later date, adding to the anticipation surrounding the event.
Other Umpires and Their Experience
For the Group A match between Pakistan and the Netherlands, Kumar Dharmasena and Wayne Knights will take the field as on-field umpires. Dharmasena, a former Sri Lankan cricketer and member of the 1996 ODI World Cup-winning team, has officiated in 37 T20 World Cup matches, including finals in 2016 and 2022. This impressive record places him fourth on the all-time list for matches officiated in the tournament. Knights, making his T20 World Cup debut, will complete his 50th T20I match as an on-field umpire during this Group A match in Colombo.
Rod Tucker leads the list of umpires with the most matches officiated in T20 World Cups, having overseen 46 matches so far. He is expected to reach the milestone of 50 matches during the tournament, officiating key games such as England vs. Nepal, India vs. Namibia, and South Africa vs. the United Arab Emirates.

A total of 24 officials will serve as on-field umpires during the group stage of the T20 World Cup.
