The Pakistan cricket team is scheduled to fly to Colombo alongside the Australian team on an Air Lanka flight from Lahore. This decision comes even as doubts linger over their participation in the World Cup. Sources close to the situation have expressed optimism that clarity will be provided soon, with PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi expected to make an announcement regarding the team’s status. The situation has been complicated by the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) rejection of the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s request to relocate their World Cup matches from India to Sri Lanka due to security concerns, which has led to discussions of a potential boycott by Pakistan.
PCB Chief’s Consultations
In light of the ongoing uncertainty, Naqvi has sought guidance from various stakeholders, including Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif. During a meeting earlier this week, the Prime Minister expressed support for Bangladesh but advised against a boycott, citing potential financial implications. Additionally, Naqvi consulted with former PCB chairmen Najam Sethi and Ramiz Raja, both of whom recommended that the team proceed to Sri Lanka and avoid a boycott of the match against India.
