India Launches Revolutionary Aadhaar App for Digital Identity
In a significant step towards enhancing digital identity verification, Minister of State for Commerce and Industry and Electronics & Information Technology, Sh Jitin Prasada, has launched the new Aadhaar App. This cutting-edge mobile application, developed by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), aims to empower Aadhaar Number Holders (ANH) with a secure and user-friendly way to manage and verify their digital identities.
Empowering Citizens with Digital Identity
Unveiling the app, Sh Prasada praised UIDAI for its remarkable efforts, emphasizing that Aadhaar has become a cornerstone of digital governance in India. He highlighted the app’s potential to streamline service delivery, making processes even more efficient and accessible for residents.
The Aadhaar App has been designed with user convenience at its core, facilitating various real-life applications. Users can now effortlessly check into hotels with Offline Verification Seeking Entity’s (OVSE) QR code scanning, verify age for movie tickets, and manage hospital admissions for visitors. The app also supports face verification, allowing users to prove their presence conveniently using biometric identification.
Innovative Functionalities and Family Access
Among its advanced features, the Aadhaar App allows users to manage up to five Aadhaar profiles on a single device, promoting the concept of “One Family – One App.” Additionally, residents can update their mobile numbers and addresses through the app, with future updates also planned to enhance user experience.
In line with the Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Act, the Aadhaar App emphasizes data minimization and selective credential sharing. Sh Bhuvnesh Kumar, CEO of UIDAI, explained that users can share only the necessary identity fields related to specific use cases by generating custom QR codes. This approach ensures that Aadhaar numbers are not stored by verifiers, thereby enhancing privacy and security.
A Vision for a Paperless Future
Sh Neelkanth Mishra, Chairman of UIDAI, remarked on the transition from paper to a digital framework as a significant advancement. He reiterated UIDAI’s commitment to keeping citizens at the center of its actions and innovations, underscoring that technology must always be inclusive, resident-centric, and grounded in trust. The launch of the new Aadhaar App marks another pivotal moment in India’s journey towards building a robust digital public infrastructure, reinforcing the belief that technology should always serve the people.
