NARCL Reports Growth and Recovery in Financial Sector Meeting
In a significant meeting chaired by Shri M. Nagaraju, Secretary of the Department of Financial Services, the National Asset Reconstruction Company Limited (NARCL) revealed promising updates on its performance and future targets. This meeting, attended by representatives from all public sector banks, marked the first convening for the fourth quarter and focused on aspirations for upcoming goals as well as a review of third-quarter performance.
NARCL announced that the number of accounts it has acquired has risen from 29 to 30, increasing the total aggregated debt exposure to approximately Rs 1.63 lakh crore. Furthermore, a pipeline of additional accounts has been identified, which could push eventual acquisitions close to the ambitious target of Rs 2 lakh crore set for NARCL.
Recovery and Performance Highlights
On the resolution front, the company reported an impressive net recovery increase, amounting to approximately Rs 1,439 crore since the last review meeting held on October 8, 2025. This brings the total recovery to Rs 5,496 crore, with security receipt (SR) redemptions totaling Rs 4,803 crore. NARCL has successfully redeemed 100% of its SRs in three accounts, with financial upside distributed among lenders.
Streamlining Acquisition Processes
During the discussions, participants focused on strategies to expedite the acquisition process. Challenges related to inter-se creditors, which stem from differential security structures, additional collaterals, and varied valuations, were also addressed. These factors have contributed to longer processing times in account acquisitions.
The Secretary of the DFS stressed the importance of collaboration between lenders and NARCL, along with other stakeholders, to minimize delays. He encouraged all parties to adhere to the principles of the decisions made during Joint Lenders Meetings (JLM). While acknowledging the progress in recovery, he reiterated that there remains considerable work ahead to secure public funds through effective recovery and resolution within acquired accounts.
