Union Minister Honors PM-SYM Beneficiaries on Republic Day

On the occasion of the 77th Republic Day, Union Minister for Labour & Employment and Youth Affairs & Sports, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, met with over 100 beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maandhan (PM-SYM) Scheme. The special guests, representing families from across India, were recognized for their contributions to the unorganised sector and their involvement in this important social security scheme.

Dr. Mandaviya welcomed the beneficiaries on behalf of the Government of India, stating that this initiative was launched under the direction of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This invitation reflects the government’s dedication to citizen-centric governance and inclusive development. During his address, he emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring social security for unorganised workers, highlighting the importance of close governance that understands the problems and aspirations of the people.

Republic Day Celebrations and Government Initiatives

Speaking during the Republic Day festivities, the minister noted the transition from Rajpath to Kartavya Path, symbolizing India’s growing democratic ideals and shared sense of responsibility. He outlined key welfare initiatives undertaken by the government, which include providing free foodgrains to nearly 80 crore citizens, increasing access to electricity and LPG connections, facilitating direct benefit transfers to farmers, and expanding scholarship opportunities for children’s education. He remarked that these efforts are essential in building a ‘Sashakt, Samriddha Bharat,’ or a strong, prosperous India.

Beneficiaries Share Their Experiences

Throughout the event, beneficiaries expressed heartfelt gratitude for the opportunity to be invited to Delhi and to attend the Republic Day Parade. Many shared their stories about enrolling in the PM-SYM scheme, highlighting the sense of security the scheme has brought to their lives through its assured pension. They expressed that this experience reinforced their belief that the government recognizes their challenges and is committed to addressing them.

About the PM-SYM Scheme

The Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maandhan (PM-SYM) Scheme, launched in 2019, is a voluntary pension scheme aimed at unorganised workers earning up to ₹15,000 monthly, who are not covered by EPFO, ESIC, or the National Pension Scheme. Eligible workers aged between 18 to 40 can enroll by contributing a small monthly amount, which is matched by the government. Upon reaching the age of 60, beneficiaries receive a minimum pension of ₹3,000 a month, along with family pension benefits for their spouse in the case of the subscriber’s death. Administered through the Maandhan portal and Common Service Centres (CSCs), the PM-SYM scheme allows for free enrollment, demonstrating the government’s dedication to providing social security and income stability for the unorganised workforce.
