Indian Scientists Honored at Deep Ocean Mission Ceremony

In a momentous gathering, Dr. Jitendra Singh, the Honourable Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Earth Sciences, celebrated the achievements of India’s first Deep Ocean Mission (DOM) at Prithvi Bhawan. This special felicitation ceremony honored the hard work of dedicated scientists and researchers who have been instrumental in advancing India’s capabilities in deep-sea exploration. As a fitting recognition of their contributions, these distinguished guests were invited to witness the prestigious Republic Day Parade in 2026.

The Ministry of Earth Sciences hosted a special luncheon to honor these individuals, marking a noteworthy occasion to celebrate their commitment to scientific advancement. Dr. Singh praised the relentless passion for knowledge and innovation among these scientists, highlighting how their efforts have established India as a leader in deep-sea exploration.

Dr. M. Ravichandran, Secretary of the Ministry of Earth Sciences, conveyed his congratulations to the team of scientists and researchers in a heartfelt message. He stated, “It is my immense pleasure to call upon my fellow scientists and esteemed colleagues on this proud occasion. Today is a day of collective pride for us, as the Ministry has had the honor to serve as a special guest at the Republic Day ceremony for the very first time on January 26th. Over the last 19 years, we have played a crucial role in enhancing India’s expertise in weather forecasting, climate services, ocean and polar research, and geosciences.”

The honored scientists expressed their heartfelt gratitude for the recognition and reaffirmed their commitment to the mission’s goals. Among the attendees were Dr. Mrutyunjay Mohapatra, Director General of the Indian Meteorological Department, alongside other dignitaries from various fields, including biotechnology, space, atomic energy, and startups.
