LG Launches 2026 BEE-Compliant Air Conditioners in India Ahead of Summer

LG has unveiled a new range of air conditioners in India that comply with the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) star rating norms set to take effect in 2026. This proactive move positions LG as one of the first brands to align its air conditioning products with the forthcoming energy standards, just in time for the summer season. The updated models promise enhanced energy efficiency, aiming to reduce electricity consumption while providing consumers with potential long-term savings.

Stricter Energy Efficiency Norms

The revised BEE norms are designed to elevate energy efficiency standards for home appliances across India. The framework set for 2026 introduces stricter limits on power consumption, aiming to decrease electricity usage and bring domestic standards in line with global practices. Under these new regulations, the criteria for star ratings have been modified. Consequently, some air conditioner models that previously held a 5-star rating may now be categorized lower. LG emphasizes that this change reflects the introduction of tougher efficiency requirements rather than a decline in product performance.

According to LG, the updated standards are focused on promoting long-term energy savings for households. The company estimates that consumers who upgrade to a 5-star air conditioner compliant with the 2026 norms could save as much as Rs. 19,000 on their electricity bills over a decade. However, actual savings may vary based on individual usage patterns and local electricity tariffs.

LG New AC Lineup: Key Features

The newly launched air conditioner lineup boasts several innovative features aimed at optimizing cooling and energy consumption. One notable function, called Precool, utilizes location-based detection through the ThinQ app. This system can automatically activate cooling when a user approaches their home within a predetermined distance. Another feature, Energy Manager+, monitors past usage data and recommends optimal operating hours. It also enables users to set spending limits to help manage electricity costs effectively.

LG has confirmed that the BEE-compliant air conditioners began hitting the market in January. This strategic timing allows consumers to select models that adhere to the latest efficiency standards before the peak demand season arrives.

Consumer Awareness and Transition Support

To facilitate this transition, LG has initiated awareness campaigns across various platforms, including print, online, and retail channels, to educate consumers about the updated star ratings. The company has also stated that air conditioners manufactured under the previous norms will remain available for sale until existing stock is depleted. This approach ensures that consumers have a range of options during this period of change, allowing them to make informed decisions about their air conditioning needs.
