New Export Benefits Set to Boost Indian Postal Trade
The Department of Posts (DoP), under the Ministry of Communications, has announced significant enhancements to export benefits, effective January 15, 2026. This initiative introduces Duty Drawback, Remission of Duties and Taxes on Exported Products (RoDTEP), and Rebate of State and Central Taxes and Levies (RoSCTL) for exports conducted through the postal channel, as per notifications from the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC).
Empowering Small Exporters
This move is a critical step in simplifying the export process for micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), artisans, start-ups, and small exporters, who often rely on the postal service for lower-value international shipments. With the existing framework for automated Integrated Goods and Services Tax (IGST) refunds, the addition of these export incentives is expected to further reduce operational costs, enhance cash flow, and improve the global competitiveness of Indian exporters.
A Unified Export Solution
Exports via the postal system are facilitated through the Dak Ghar Niryat Kendras (DNKs), a collaborative effort between the Department of Posts and CBIC. These centers offer comprehensive export services, including booking, digital documentation, and customs clearance, all under one roof. Currently, there are 1,013 DNKs operational across India, providing exporters from remote areas with essential access to international markets.
Streamlined Processes for Efficiency
To implement these new export benefits, the DNK and self-service portals, as well as customs platforms, have undergone necessary upgrades. These enhancements come with clear Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for both exporters and field officials. The initiative aligns with the goals of the Foreign Trade Policy 2023 and promotes a more favorable environment for ease of doing business and cross-border e-commerce.
Comprehensive Services Offered
India Post is now positioned as a one-stop solution for exporters, offering a range of services from pick-up to comprehensive documentation, online payments, faceless customs clearance, and real-time tracking of shipments. Among its various offerings is the International Tracked Packet Service (ITPS), which is available in 135 countries, providing an efficient and cost-effective means for e-commerce shipments across borders.
