Government Initiates Chintan Shivir to Boost Food Processing Sector

The Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI) of India has kicked off a significant two-day Chintan Shivir at the Marriott Hotel in Udaipur, Rajasthan. The event aims to fortify India’s food processing ecosystem by focusing on policy-making, innovation, entrepreneurship, and collaboration among stakeholders.

During the inaugural session, Hon’ble Minister for Food Processing Industries, Shri Chirag Paswan, reaffirmed the government’s dedication to creating a modern, competitive, and inclusive food processing sector. He highlighted the crucial role food processing plays in enhancing farmers’ incomes, minimizing post-harvest losses, supporting value addition, and generating substantial employment opportunities, particularly for young people and women. The Minister stressed that developing the food processing sector is vital for reinforcing India’s agricultural value chains, increasing export capabilities, and promoting sustainable growth that aligns with the nation’s overall objectives.

The inaugural session saw participation from high-ranking officials within the Ministry, including Shri Abhinav Joshi, Secretary of MoFPI, Smt. Nandita Gopal, Special Secretary, and Shri Devesh Deval, Joint Secretary. They were joined by other notable dignitaries from both government and industry sectors.

As part of the event, MoFPI unveiled several key publications that underscore the technology-driven transformation within food processing. These publications also highlight the successful stories of start-up grant challenge winners and entrepreneurs supported by the National Institute of Food Technology Entrepreneurship and Management (NIFTEM). This effort reflects the Ministry’s ongoing commitment to fostering innovation and promoting enterprise-led growth in the sector.

The Chintan Shivir functions as a key platform for discussions aimed at developing actionable and concrete strategies. Participants are expected to explore ways to enhance processing capacity, improve the ease of doing business, strengthen infrastructure, and encourage entrepreneurship and investment in the food processing industry.
