India’s Textile Exports Show Resilience Amid Global Challenges
India’s textile and apparel exports are proving to be resilient, achieving steady growth despite the challenges posed by a sluggish global trade environment. For the second consecutive month in December 2025, the sector recorded a positive export figure, with earnings reaching USD 3.27 billion—a 0.40% increase compared to December 2024. This follows noteworthy growth in November 2025, showcasing the sector’s adaptability and strength in value-added manufacturing.
During December 2025, several key segments drove export growth. Notably, handicrafts saw a robust rise of 7.2%, while ready-made garments increased by 2.89%. Additionally, MMF yarn, fabrics, and made-ups experienced a growth of 3.99%. These developments highlight India’s competitive edge in value-added manufacturing and its ability to maintain employment through traditional crafts, even in the face of fluctuating global demand.
Stable Annual Performance and Market Diversification
Throughout the calendar year of 2025, India’s textile and apparel exports remained steady at USD 37.54 billion. Key segments such as handicrafts experienced significant cumulative growth at 17.5%. Ready-made garments and jute products also recorded increases of 3.5%. This stability amidst geopolitical tensions and inflation demonstrates the structural resilience of the sector and its diverse export portfolio.
A remarkable aspect of 2025 has been India’s substantial market diversification. From January to November 2025, Indian textile exports rose across 118 countries, showing broad improvement compared to the same period in 2024. Emerging markets saw significant growth, including the United Arab Emirates (9.5%) and Egypt (29.1%). Noteworthy surges were observed in countries like Sudan (182.9%) and Cameroon (152.9%). Meanwhile, established European markets such as Spain (7.9%), France, Italy, the Netherlands, Germany, and the United Kingdom continued to show steady growth.
Strengthening India’s Global Textile Presence
This diverse performance underscores the resilience of India’s textile export sector and reflects the strengthening of its global market presence. The positive trends in exports are being supported by a comprehensive policy framework that prioritizes competitiveness, value addition, and market expansion.
Overall, the sustained momentum in exports, along with an increasingly wide market footprint focused on value-added segments, reinforces India’s position as a reliable global sourcing hub for textiles and apparel. By continuing to emphasize diversification and support for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), the sector is well-positioned for further growth and deeper integration into global value chains in the future.
