FDDI Celebrates Foundation Day with Vision for the Future

The Footwear Design & Development Institute (FDDI), a recognized Institution of National Importance, recently celebrated its Foundation Day with a grand Industry Conclave. Hosted under the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), the event marked the beginning of a year-long celebration, leading up to FDDI’s 40th anniversary of excellence in educational and industrial contributions.

Bringing together policymakers, industry experts, alumni, academicians, and students, the occasion highlighted FDDI’s impressive journey since its establishment in 1986. With significant accomplishments over the years, the institute has broadened its influence both nationally and internationally. During the event, FDDI unveiled its Vision 2030, which focuses on innovation-driven education, sustainability, entrepreneurship, and enhancing global competitiveness.

Commitment to Industry and Sustainability

In his address, FDDI’s Managing Director, Shri Vivek Sharma, IRS, emphasized the importance of the occasion. He described it as a dual celebration of FDDI’s legacy and the invaluable support from DPIIT and industry partners. “With the Curtain Raiser for 40 Years of Excellence and our Vision 2030, FDDI is dedicated to being future-ready and globally relevant while staying grounded in sustainability and Indian heritage,” he remarked.

The celebrations included a Talk Show Session featuring distinguished alumni and industry leaders discussing emerging trends, design and technology integration, and the necessity for collaboration between industry and academia. This session underscored FDDI’s critical role as a leader in talent development and industrial growth.

Engagement with the Industry

Further highlighting its commitment, FDDI hosted an Industry Advisory Roundtable, where senior leaders from various sectors engaged in strategic discussions about workforce development and global competitiveness. During this session, FDDI launched its Industry Membership Programme aimed at fostering long-term partnerships with industry stakeholders. Additionally, several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) were signed to enhance collaboration in education, research, and innovation in line with DPIIT’s growth vision.

Showcasing Cultural Heritage

Adding an artistic flair to the celebrations, FDDI students showcased a fashion show titled “Traditional Khadi,” which highlighted India’s rich textile heritage through modern interpretations. This performance accentuated themes of sustainability, local craftsmanship, and the ethos of being Vocal for Local.

The Foundation Day and Industry Conclave reiterated FDDI’s commitment as a prestigious national institute supported by DPIIT and industry. With a clear roadmap leading up to its 40th year, FDDI is poised for continued excellence in education, innovation, and impactful industry partnerships.
