WhatsApp is set to enhance user profiles with a new feature that allows the addition of cover photos, a capability already familiar to Facebook users. This upcoming update aims to provide a more personalized touch to profiles on the messaging platform. Currently in the testing phase for both iOS and Android, the feature promises to give users greater control over how they present themselves to their contacts.
New Layout for Profile Pages
If implemented, the cover photo feature will introduce a dedicated space in the profile section for users to display a wide image above their existing profile details. This image will be positioned above the profile photo, name, and About section, offering a fresh way for users to share visual content. Users can easily select an image from their phone’s gallery and have the flexibility to remove the cover photo whenever they choose.
In addition to the aesthetic update, WhatsApp is developing privacy controls that will dictate who can view these cover photos. These controls will mirror the existing privacy settings for profile photos, status updates, and last seen information. Users will have several visibility options, including allowing everyone to see the cover photo, restricting it to saved contacts, or hiding it from all users. Furthermore, there will be an option to exclude specific contacts while keeping the cover photo visible to others, providing users with enhanced control over their profile visibility.
Currently, the cover photo feature has not yet reached beta testers, as WhatsApp continues to refine the tool. Once it is ready for testing, the company plans a gradual rollout to its broader user base.
Recent Updates Focused on Group Chats
In addition to the profile enhancements, WhatsApp has recently introduced several features aimed at improving group chat experiences. These updates focus on personal identification within groups and facilitate better planning for shared events.
One notable feature allows group members to assign labels to themselves that reflect their roles within specific groups. For instance, a user might appear under one name in a family group and a different label in a sports or work group. This change helps participants understand each other’s context during conversations, enhancing communication.
Moreover, WhatsApp has rolled out a feature that converts typed text into stickers using the sticker search function. Users can now save these text-based stickers directly into sticker packs without needing to send them in a chat first. Additionally, the platform now supports early reminders for events created in group chats. Event creators can schedule alerts in advance to notify participants before meetings, calls, or gatherings, making it easier to keep everyone informed. These updates reflect WhatsApp’s ongoing commitment to enhancing user experience and functionality on the platform.
