Faridabad’s Streets Face Inspection in Clean Air Initiative
The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) recently carried out an inspection in Faridabad, Haryana, on January 13, 2026, focusing on road dust mitigation and the maintenance of roads managed by the Municipal Corporation of Faridabad (MCF). This inspection was part of a broader enforcement effort under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) aimed at improving air quality in the National Capital Region and surrounding areas.
Conducted under the initiative called Operation Clean Air, the inspection sought to evaluate the effectiveness of current road cleaning practices and to pinpoint areas struggling with dust and municipal solid waste accumulation. A total of nine teams, consisting of members from the Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HSPCB) and the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), were deployed for this task.
The teams meticulously examined 127 road sections throughout the city and provided geo-tagged, time-stamped photographic documentation of their findings as part of a comprehensive inspection report. The results of the inspections revealed significant differences in dust levels across the inspected stretches. While 66 sections showed low dust levels and 19 had no visible dust, there were 17 stretches marked by high dust levels and 25 with moderate dust accumulation. The areas with the highest dust accumulation were often linked to municipal solid waste buildup and Construction & Demolition (C&D) debris, particularly along main roads and junctions. A few instances of open burning were also noted during the evaluation.
In response to the findings, the CAQM underscored the importance of immediate and ongoing corrective actions at the identified hotspots. They emphasized the need for intensified mechanical sweeping, regular water sprinkling, and the timely collection and scientific disposal of municipal and C&D waste. Additionally, there were calls for strict enforcement measures to deter waste dumping and curb open burning practices. The MCF has been urged to enhance its monitoring systems and to ensure that dust suppression measures are uniformly implemented across all road segments to effectively prevent dust from re-accumulating.
The inspection and enforcement activities under Operation Clean Air are expected to continue regularly throughout the region, reinforcing compliance with established statutory guidelines and GRAP measures. The CAQM remains committed to collaborating closely with relevant agencies to ensure roads are clean, free of dust, and well maintained.
