Budget Talks Focus on Empowering Rural India

Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, met with Union Finance Minister Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman in Delhi today to discuss future provisions aimed at enhancing the rural economy. This meeting comes after a series of visits by Chouhan to different states where he engaged with progressive farmers, agricultural specialists, Self-Help Groups, cooperatives, and representatives from national institutions linked to both agriculture and rural development.

Throughout his travels, Chouhan gathered insights and suggestions, which he later compiled into a comprehensive set of recommendations focused on agriculture and rural development. These recommendations were formally submitted to the Finance Minister during their meeting.

Commitment to Rural Prosperity

During the discussion, Chouhan emphasized that under the guidance of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the Central Government remains committed to making rural India self-sufficient and economically prosperous. He conveyed optimism that the upcoming Union Budget for the financial year 2026–27 would offer much-needed support to farmers and rural communities.

Chouhan’s remarks highlighted his belief that this year’s budget could mark a significant step toward fulfilling the Prime Minister’s vision of creating ‘Prosperous Farmers, Empowered Villages.’ He asserted that the policies and financial measures discussed would be pivotal in reaching that goal, providing farmers and villagers with the tools and resources needed to thrive.

Engaging with Stakeholders

The interactions in Delhi and across the nation included a broad spectrum of stakeholders in the agricultural sector. By collaborating closely with farmers, agricultural experts, and cooperative institutions, the Union Minister aimed to create a dialogue that would help shape effective policies. The feedback gathered during these discussions is crucial for tailoring government initiatives that directly address the challenges faced by the rural economy.

Chouhan concluded with a positive outlook on the government’s trajectory, mentioning that the planned budgetary measures are designed to empower the grassroots-level economy, ensuring that rural citizens are not only supported during challenging times but are also set on a path towards sustainable growth.
