NCR Authorities Crack Down on 16 Industrial Units for Pollution Violations

The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) in the National Capital Region (NCR) has taken decisive action by ordering the closure of 16 industrial units found to be in serious violation of environmental regulations. This enforcement measure follows rigorous inspections aimed at combating air pollution and promoting adherence to legal standards.

The inspections identified severe compliance issues among the facilities, with one unit located in Uttar Pradesh and another in Rajasthan. The remaining 14 units operate in Sonipat district, Haryana. Notably, these establishments were found to be operating without the necessary permits, including the required Consent to Establish (CTE) and Consent to Operate (CTO), as outlined by existing laws.

Serious Violations Uncovered

Further investigations uncovered a range of violations that significantly impact air quality. Inspectors reported the absence or malfunction of essential Air Pollution Control Devices (APCDs), the use of unauthorized fuels, and the operation of these units during restricted time frames as per the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP). Additionally, diesel generator sets failed to meet established environmental norms, leading to visible smoke and emissions that breach accepted standards.

Firm Stance on Compliance

In light of these findings, the CAQM has expressed its zero-tolerance policy towards any form of non-compliance. The commission has mandated the immediate shutdown of the offending units until they can demonstrate compliance with all relevant statutes and regulatory guidelines. CAQM officials have emphasized that stringent enforcement actions will persist, including legal repercussions for any further violations.

All industries operating within the NCR are strongly urged to adhere strictly to environmental regulations. This includes ensuring the proper installation and functioning of Air Pollution Control Devices and maintaining compliance at all operational times. The CAQM aims to safeguard air quality in the region and protect public health by holding non-compliant entities accountable.
