CAQM Inspects Noida Roads for Dust Control Efforts
The Commission for Air Quality Management in NCR and Adjoining Areas (CAQM) recently conducted an inspection drive in Noida to evaluate road cleaning and dust mitigation efforts. This assessment, held on January 5, 2026, involved a thorough review of road stretches maintained by the Noida Authority as part of the ongoing enforcement of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP).
The inspection focused on 142 road segments under the Noida Authority’s jurisdiction. The primary goal was to assess the practical implementation of measures aimed at reducing dust and to identify issues relating to visible road dust, municipal solid waste (MSW), construction and demolition (C&D) waste, and instances of open burning.
Ten teams, consisting of officers from the Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board (UPPCB) and the CAQM’s flying squad, participated in this extensive inspection. They collected geo-tagged and time-stamped photographic evidence, which has been included in a consolidated report submitted to the Commission.
The preliminary findings from the inspection reveal a promising outlook. Out of the 142 road stretches evaluated, only four were found to exhibit high levels of visible dust. Furthermore, 24 areas showed moderate dust levels, while 66 recorded low dust intensity, and an impressive 48 stretches had no visible dust at all.
The few segments that displayed high visible dust levels were often linked to the accumulation of MSW and C&D waste. Locations such as under flyovers, along metro corridors, and certain arterial roads were identified as problem areas. These insights underline the importance of concentrating efforts on the identified hotspots to prevent the re-accumulation of dust and waste and ensure effective cleaning operations across all road stretches.
In light of these findings, the CAQM has stressed the urgency of sustained and enhanced efforts, particularly in vulnerable locations. This includes regular mechanical sweeping, the prompt removal and scientific disposal of collected dust and waste, effective water sprinkling, and stringent measures against waste dumping and open burning.
Moving forward, the CAQM will continue its inspection and enforcement drives under ‘Operation Clean Air’ across the National Capital Region (NCR) to ensure strict adherence to statutory guidelines and GRAP measures. The Commission has committed to work collaboratively with all relevant agencies in the NCR to enhance the quality of air and maintain clean, green, and dust-free roadways in the region.
