Delhi-NCR Achieves Record Low Air Pollution Levels in 2025

The Commission for Air Quality Management in the National Capital Region (NCR) and surrounding areas (CAQM) has reported significant progress in reducing air pollution levels since its establishment in 2021. With a series of strategic directives and policies, the CAQM has effectively contributed to cleaner air in Delhi-NCR, leading to remarkable improvements in particulate matter concentrations over the years.

According to data, 2025 marked a historic low for average concentrations of Particulate Matter (PM10 and PM2.5) in Delhi, with annual averages recorded at 198 µg/m³ for PM10 and 97 µg/m³ for PM2.5. This achievement stands out, particularly as it occurs in the context of long-term efforts aimed at combating air quality issues in the region.

Insight into Air Quality Trends

Comparative data highlights the ongoing trend in reducing particulate matter emissions in Delhi. The following table illustrates the daily average concentrations of PM10 and PM2.5 from 2018 to 2025:

Year Daily avg. PM10 (µg/m³) Daily avg. PM2.5 (µg/m³)
2018 242 114
2019 218 109
2020* 181 95
2021 211 105
2022 211 98
2023 206 100
2024 212 105
2025 198 97

*Note: The year 2020 was significantly impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, influencing air quality measurements.

The substantial decline in PM concentrations reflects not only the effects of the CAQM’s continued initiatives but also the commitment to improving air quality through targeted policies and public cooperation. The year 2025 stands out with the lowest recorded levels of airborne particulate matter, apart from the pandemic-affected year of 2020.

Looking Ahead

The CAQM is optimistic about maintaining this positive trend, with a focus on implementing further measures to ensure a gradual and sustainable improvement in air quality each year. Continuous efforts, both in policy enforcement and active engagement in local communities, are expected to play a crucial role in this endeavor.
