Health Minister Reviews State Initiatives for TB Elimination and Better Care

Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Shri Jagat Prakash Nadda, convened a significant meeting today with Health Ministers and senior officials from Rajasthan and Maharashtra. The objective was to assess healthcare delivery mechanisms and expedite the implementation of vital national health initiatives. Key topics included strengthening public health infrastructure, enhancing patient-centric services, and reinforcing regulatory frameworks aimed at eradicating tuberculosis (TB) as a public health challenge.

During the discussions, Shri Nadda emphasized the essential nature of a vigilant drug regulatory system. He stressed that comprehensive oversight—from the manufacturing process to the final distribution—is critical for ensuring the quality and safety of healthcare products, and for maintaining public trust. He urged the adoption of best practices in regulation and highlighted the importance of sustained efforts to ensure patient satisfaction and compliance.

The progress of the Free Drugs and Free Diagnostics Initiatives was another focal point of the meeting. The Union Health Minister urged both states to address supply-chain inefficiencies and enhance monitoring systems. He also proposed the establishment of more Jan Aushadhi Kendras and AMRIT Pharmacy stores, reinforcing that these facilities are vital in providing quality and affordable medicines to the residents.

Rajasthan’s officials pointed out that the formation of Ayushman Arogya Mandirs should be based on population needs to effectively deliver primary healthcare, especially in areas with dispersed populations. Shri Nadda affirmed that swift and reliable diagnostics are foundational for effective healthcare delivery and must be integrated at all care levels—primary, secondary, and tertiary.

He flagged the importance of robust professional management structures in hospital administration and regulatory compliance and stressed the need for strict oversight of blood bank operations and patient safety protocols.

Reinforcing the national commitment to eradicating tuberculosis, Shri Nadda called for targeted strategies specific to districts and blocks. He underscored the necessity of intensified screening, diagnostics, and treatment adherence, encouraging a mission-mode approach to TB elimination with persistent grassroots monitoring.

Furthermore, the Union Health Minister proposed sensitization workshops for Members of Legislative Assemblies (MLAs) to foster collaborative relations with Chief Medical Officers (CMOs) and Block Medical Officers (BMOs). He reiterated that community participation is vital to strengthening accountability and improving health outcomes.

The Health Ministers of Rajasthan and Maharashtra expressed their commitment to collaborate closely with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare to enhance the implementation and outcomes across priority health programs. Shri Nadda highlighted the importance of the Public–Private Partnership (PPP) model and Viability Gap Funding (VGF) in expediting TB elimination efforts and fortifying health interventions.

The meeting concluded with a mutual determination to enhance drug regulations, improve diagnostic services, professionalize hospital management, expand medical education, and accelerate the journey towards a TB-free India, embodying a spirit of cooperative federalism. Senior officials from both states and the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare were also in attendance, showcasing a strong collaborative approach to improving healthcare in the country.
