CBFC Cuts 8 Minutes of Sydney Sweeney’s Frontal Nudity from The Housemaid

The highly anticipated film The Housemaid is set to make its debut in India, following its release in the West on December 19, 2026. The movie has garnered praise for its engaging storyline and strong performances, particularly from stars Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried. However, Indian audiences may find themselves disappointed, as the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has mandated significant cuts to the film, removing a substantial portion of its intimate scenes.

CBFC’s Stringent Edits

The CBFC granted *The Housemaid* an ‘A’ certificate on December 4, but not without imposing strict modifications. The board requested the removal of explicit language, including terms deemed offensive, such as ‘b***h’, ‘c**t’, and ‘motherf****r’. In addition to muting these words, the CBFC required the studio to eliminate all nudity visuals of women’s breasts. As a result, a staggering eight minutes of footage has been cut from the film, marking one of the most extensive edits due to censorship in recent memory.

Among the scenes removed is a lengthy and intense lovemaking sequence featuring Sydney Sweeney, which will not be shown in India. Another scene depicting Amanda Seyfried using a breast pump has also been excised. Interestingly, a brief shot of the male lead, Brandon Sklenar, showing his buttocks has been retained, highlighting the inconsistencies in the censorship process.

Impact on Film’s Runtime

Despite the extensive cuts, early viewers of the censored version report that the film’s overall narrative and erotic essence remain largely intact. Originally, *The Housemaid* had a runtime of 131 minutes and 46 seconds. Following the cuts and the addition of an anti-smoking advertisement at the beginning and after the interval, the film’s new duration in India is now 125 minutes and 46 seconds. This adjustment means that the film will run for approximately 2 hours, 5 minutes, and 46 seconds.

The story revolves around a woman on parole who is eager to find employment. She secures a position as a housemaid in a luxurious home belonging to a wealthy family. Initially, everything appears to be going well, but she soon discovers that her safety may be at risk while working for them.

Audience Reactions and Expectations

As *The Housemaid* approaches its release date in India, audience reactions are mixed. While many are excited to see the film, the significant cuts have raised concerns about the integrity of the story. Fans of Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried are particularly eager to witness their performances, but the edits may alter the viewing experience.

The film’s narrative, which blends suspense and eroticism, has already captivated international audiences. However, the CBFC’s stringent regulations may lead to a different reception among Indian viewers. As the release date nears, it remains to be seen how the film will perform at the box office and whether the cuts will impact its overall success in the Indian market.
