NRDC Celebrates 72nd Foundation Day with New Systems Engineering Facility
The National Research Development Corporation (NRDC) marked its 72nd Foundation Day on December 31, 2025, with the unveiling of the Systems Engineering Facility (SEF). The event saw esteemed dignitaries, including Dr. N. Kalaiselvi, Director General of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), gracing the occasion.
During the celebrations, Cmde. Amit Rastogi (Retd.), Chairman and Managing Director of NRDC, took the stage to reflect on the organization’s extensive history. He addressed NRDC’s commitment to facilitating deep-tech commercialization, supporting startups, and bolstering micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). The CMD highlighted NRDC’s strategic initiatives that align with national goals such as Viksit Bharat@2047 and Atmanirbhar Bharat and emphasized their mission of fostering competitive indigenous technologies.
In a significant development, an exchange of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was witnessed between NRDC and the International Council on Systems Engineering (INCOSE), aimed at enhancing collaborative innovation and systems engineering capabilities.
Inauguration of the Systems Engineering Facility
One of the pivotal moments of the event was the inauguration of the Systems Engineering Facility (SEF), established in collaboration with Pimpri Chinchwad College of Engineering (PCCoE) in Maharashtra. Dr. Kalaiselvi inaugurated the facility, and during her speech, she emphasized the essential role of systems engineering in managing technological complexities and advancing innovation.
The SEF is designed to act as a national platform that supports incubated startups, MSMEs, and innovators by bridging the gap between conceptual ideas and viable technological solutions. The facility offers comprehensive support across various stages of the innovation lifecycle, encompassing requirements analysis, system architecture design, and verification processes.
Technology Transfer and Innovations Recognized
In addition to the facility inauguration, NRDC spotlighted its broader mission of technology transfer by signing several licensing agreements. Among these was the licensing of electric tractor technology from CSIR–CMERI to M/s Mistrijee Technologies and a sustainable vegan leather alternative from CSIR–NIIST to M/s EcoSolutions.
NRDC also awarded employees for their excellence and contributions. Ms. Khushboo received the Best Employee (Non-Technical) award, while other accolades were given for technology presentation and design initiatives. Furthermore, NRDC announced seed funding of ₹30 lakh to both VoltWorks Technologies for an electric vehicle solution and Tri Nano Technologies for an innovative solar panel coating technology.
Empowering MSMEs and Future Outlook
A notable initiative introduced during the celebrations was the MSME–Technology Transfer Facilitation Centre, which aims to empower MSMEs by providing financial support for intellectual property protection and technology acquisition. This initiative seeks to lower innovation-related costs and expedite the commercialization of technologies.
The 72nd Foundation Day and the launch of the SEF reiterate NRDC’s commitment to nurturing an innovative ecosystem in India. Through structured systems engineering practices and robust technology transfer initiatives, NRDC continues to play a pivotal role in turning indigenous research into scalable market solutions.
