India Post and SIDBI Join Forces for Micro Enterprise Verification

The Department of Posts (DoP) and the Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) have joined forces to enhance the verification process of Informal Micro Enterprises (IMEs) registered on the Udyam Assist Platform (UAP). This collaboration aims to ensure data integrity, support credit enablement, and promote the formalisation of micro enterprises across India.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed in New Delhi at Dak Bhawan by Ms. Manisha Bansal Badal, General Manager of DoP, and Shri Amit Nagar, Deputy General Manager of SIDBI. This agreement establishes a structured partnership to verify the authenticity of information related to these enterprises, aiming to bolster the ecosystem for informal micro businesses throughout the country.

Leveraging Postal Network for Effective Verification

India Post, known for its extensive reach with over 1.64 lakh post offices, will utilize its trained personnel to conduct on-ground Contact Point Verification (CPV). This verification process will focus on confirming demographic and business details, as well as location validation, which will be supported by geo-tagged evidence. Such a thorough approach aims to build trust and transparency in the data associated with IMEs.

SIDBI, as the primary financial institution tasked with supporting the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector, is crucial to the development and administration of the Udyam Assist Platform. This platform plays a pivotal role in strengthening the informal micro enterprise ecosystem by facilitating processes that formalize operations and improve access to institutional credit. To ensure the reliability of the information available, SIDBI will implement a robust CPV mechanism.

Innovative Technology Supporting the Initiative

The partnership under the MoU will utilize a dedicated CPV mobile application designed by SIDBI. This tech solution will enable real-time data capture, secure uploading of geo-tagged photographs, and timely submission of verification reports. SIDBI will provide all operational guidelines, backend infrastructure, and training support necessary to ensure uniformity and accuracy in the execution of this important initiative.

The MoU is valid for two years, from December 31, 2025, to December 30, 2027. There is also the possibility for extension based on mutual agreement. Importantly, the agreement includes clauses ensuring data confidentiality, information security, and adherence to GST compliance.

This strategic partnership signifies a vital step in promoting MSME development and enhancing financial inclusion while aiding in the formalisation of the informal economy in India.
