PM SVANidhi Scheme Restructured for Street Vendors Until 2030
The Prime Minister Street Vendor’s Atma Nirbhar Nidhi (PM SVANidhi) Scheme has been restructured to extend its benefits to 1.15 crore street vendors, including 50 lakh new beneficiaries. The Union Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved this significant extension to March 31, 2030, enhancing the financial support available to these vital contributors to the urban economy.
Street vendors play an essential role in the urban supply chain, providing convenient access to services and goods. However, they often struggle with limited access to credit, lack of recognition, and social security schemes. Launched in June 2020, PM SVANidhi supports street vendors in overcoming financial constraints, especially during the challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemic. The scheme has evolved to not only provide financial aid but also to grant a sense of identity to street vendors by recognizing their contributions to the economy.
Expanded Benefits and Loan Structure
The restructured PM SVANidhi Scheme features an enhanced loan structure. The first tranche will now provide loans up to ₹15,000, an increase from the previous ₹10,000, while the second tranche will offer loans up to ₹25,000, up from ₹20,000. The third tranche remains at ₹50,000. Additionally, beneficiaries who repay their loans on time can access UPI-linked RuPay Credit Cards for immediate credit, facilitating prompt business and personal financing.
Moreover, to promote digital transactions, the scheme will offer cashback incentives: beneficiaries can receive up to ₹1,200 for regular sales and up to ₹400 for wholesale purchases of ₹2,000 or more.
Achievements and Social Welfare Linkages
Recognized for its successful implementation, PM SVANidhi received the Prime Minister’s Award for Excellence in Public Administration for Innovation in 2023, which highlights its role in promoting financial inclusion and driving digital empowerment among the street vendor community. By December 2025, the scheme had facilitated the approval of more than 1.46 crore welfare schemes aimed at improving beneficiaries’ livelihoods.
Not only does the scheme aim to provide financial assistance, but it also emphasizes the socio-economic upliftment of street vendors and their families. Training in entrepreneurship, financial literacy, digital skills, and food safety is set to be offered in collaboration with various institutions.
Collaborative Implementation and Outreach
The successful application of the PM SVANidhi Scheme and its benefits relies on collaborative efforts between the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, the Department of Financial Services, state governments, banks, and urban local bodies. This cooperation is crucial for identifying vendor needs, facilitating loan applications, and enhancing access to welfare programs.
To further strengthen outreach and promote the scheme’s benefits, special events known as Lok Kalyan Melas are being organized. These events ensure vendors and their families connect with multiple government schemes and simplify the loan disbursement process.
Ultimately, the extension of the PM SVANidhi Scheme represents a commitment to integrating street vendors into the formal economy and fostering an inclusive urban environment. By providing easy access to credit and social security measures, the scheme aims to empower street vendors, helping them thrive and contribute to a resilient and dynamic economy.
