DGCA Hosts Safety Seminar to Elevate Aviation Standards in India
In a significant move to bolster aviation safety, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), operating under the Ministry of Civil Aviation, hosted the Safety Seminar 2025 at the Indian Aviation Academy in New Delhi. This event, themed “Enhancing Aviation Safety through Collaboration,” gathered senior officials from the Ministry of Civil Aviation, DGCA, and industry leaders, along with aviation professionals from across India’s civil aviation landscape. The seminar was inaugurated by Shri Samir Kumar Sinha, Secretary of the Ministry of Civil Aviation. Impressive Growth in Indian Aviation
Sinha noted, “India stands proudly as the world’s third-largest domestic civil aviation market.” He reported an impressive annual growth rate of 9% in passenger traffic over the last decade, while cargo volumes increased by 2.9%. The fleet has significantly expanded, growing from 395 aircraft in 2014 to 844 by 2025, showcasing the sector’s remarkable momentum.

Reflecting on the year, Sinha remarked, “2025 has been a period of learning and transformation for Indian civil aviation.” He acknowledged the challenges that tested resilience within the sector. Nevertheless, he highlighted that these experiences have strengthened industry commitment to enhancing safety, efficiency, and public trust, spurring a unified effort towards a more robust future for air travel in India.
During his talk, Sinha pointed out that maintenance errors pose significant operational risks leading to mechanical faults and system failures. This remark underscored the need for continuous vigilance in the aviation maintenance sphere.
DGCA’s Vision for Aviation Safety
In his welcome address, Shri Faiz Ahmed Kidwai, Director General of DGCA, reiterated the regulator’s commitment to proactive safety oversight and alignment with global standards. He highlighted key initiatives, such as the Bharatiya Vayuyan Adhiniyam, 2024, the State Safety Programme, and the National Aviation Safety Plan (2024–2028).
The seminar featured three comprehensive technical sessions tackling safety challenges such as runway incursions, fostering a positive safety culture in aviation, and addressing maintenance errors. Each session saw experts from regulatory and industry backgrounds collaboratively discussing root causes, best practices, and mitigation strategies.
