AI Set to Transform India’s Educational Landscape
In a significant move towards modernizing education, Union Education Minister Shri Dharmendra Pradhan led the third meeting of the Consultative Committee on the Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Teaching and Learning today in New Delhi. Accompanied by Minister of State for Education, Shri Sukanta Majumdar, and Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Shri Jayant Chaudhary, the meeting aimed to discuss the integration of AI in educational frameworks. Senior officials, including Secretary of the Department of School Education & Literacy, Shri Sanjay Kumar, and Secretary of the Department of Higher Education, Dr. Vineet Joshi, also participated in the meeting.
During his address, Shri Pradhan emphasized the immense potential of AI to tackle pressing challenges in education. He remarked on how AI can facilitate inclusive, accessible, and equitable quality education. The Minister expressed gratitude to committee members for their insightful contributions, underscoring the government’s commitment to personalized, student-centric learning that caters to the diverse needs of learners.
Integrating AI Across School Education
A key focus of the meeting was a comprehensive presentation outlining strategies for implementing AI in school education. This initiative aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and encompasses essential curriculum reforms. The proposal includes introducing age-appropriate computational thinking and AI literacy from the foundational stage, enhancing project-based learning, and incorporating AI as a skill subject at the secondary level.
The presentation also highlighted a range of innovative digital interventions like DIKSHA 2.0, e-Jaadui Pitara, and the TARA app. These initiatives aim to personalize learning experiences, support teachers, provide career guidance, and enable real-time monitoring of student progress while ensuring multilingual access.
Advancing Higher Education with AI
The meeting also touched on using AI to improve higher education. The discussions centered around the transformative impact of AI in enhancing teaching and learning processes, driving research and innovation, and increasing employability rates among graduates. Proposed curriculum updates for centrally funded institutions were discussed, focusing on integrating skill-based and interdisciplinary courses.
The initiative aims to strengthen both digital and physical infrastructure to support advanced learning and research, ultimately nurturing future-ready graduates. These measures are designed to promote innovation ecosystems within Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) and keep India’s education system competitive on a global scale.
