India Invites Global Steel Leaders to Bharat Steel 2026
Union Minister for Steel and Heavy Industries, Shri H.D. Kumaraswamy, engaged in an interactive meeting with ambassadors and representatives from key partner nations, promoting their participation in Bharat Steel 2026. This flagship conference and exhibition, hosted by the Ministry of Steel, is set to take place in April 2026 and aims to foster international collaboration in the steel sector.
The session was well-attended by diplomats from countries pivotal to the global steel value chain. This meeting is part of the Ministry’s broader outreach initiative to enhance international cooperation and bolster India’s relationships with both steel-producing and consuming nations.
During the gathering, Minister Kumaraswamy expressed his gratitude to the ambassadors for their presence, highlighting India’s commitment to nurturing trusted global partnerships. He emphasized the steel sector’s significance as a reflection of India’s overall economic transformation, which has positioned it as a crucial driver of growth, resilience, and integration into the global economy.
As the second-largest steel producer in the world, India has reached this status through ongoing reforms, steady investments, and a visionary strategy centered on modernization, self-reliance, and sustainability. Kumaraswamy noted that the steel industry contributes approximately 2.5% to India’s GDP, sustaining nearly 2.8 million jobs, fueled by expansions in infrastructure, manufacturing, and vital sectors like defense and mobility.
Referencing the National Steel Policy 2017 and the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he shared ambitious targets for India’s steel sector, which aims for a capacity of 300 million tonnes by 2030 and an even bolder goal of 500 million tonnes by 2047. These objectives are expected to further integrate India into global steel value chains and pave the way for enhanced international cooperation.
The Minister announced the establishment of Bharat Steel as an annual flagship International Conference-cum-Exhibition. The inaugural edition, Bharat Steel 2026, will be held at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi.
Kumaraswamy explained that Bharat Steel 2026 aims to serve as a global platform that connects policymakers, industry leaders, investors, technology providers, and buyers from around the world. A key component of the event will be a dedicated Reverse Buyer-Seller Meet, designed to facilitate structured B2B engagements and nurture long-term partnerships.
The conference will focus on critical areas such as expanding steel consumption, promoting sustainability, securing raw material supply chains, enhancing technological innovation, and fostering investments for capacity expansion. It will also cover transformative themes like green steel ecosystems, digitally enabled steel plants, and the efficient use of low-grade ores.
Kumaraswamy encouraged ambassadors and representatives to ensure participation from their respective countries, especially from industry leaders and investors. He invited partner nations to partake in Country Roundtables and engage as Partner Countries at Bharat Steel 2026, reinforcing the potential for bilateral cooperation in the steel sector.
