Atal Pension Yojana Hits 8.45 Crore Subscribers Mark
As of November 30, 2025, the Atal Pension Yojana (APY) has successfully enrolled a remarkable 8,45,17,419 subscribers. This milestone highlights the scheme’s importance in providing social security, particularly to India’s economically weaker sections.
Pension Distribution Across Various Slabs
A breakdown of the pensioners by contribution slab reveals that the majority of subscribers have opted for the minimum pension amount. In fact, a staggering 86.91% of enrollees, which translates to 7,34,79,553 subscribers, are set to receive a monthly pension of ₹1,000. This indicates that the APY is effectively reaching some of the nation’s most vulnerable populations.
Here’s how the current enrollment totals for other pension slabs stand:
- ₹2,000 slab: 25,34,949 subscribers (3%)
- ₹3,000 slab: 11,86,898 subscribers (1.41%)
- ₹4,000 slab: 4,46,102 subscribers (0.53%)
- ₹5,000 slab: 68,69,917 subscribers (8.15%)
Details About APY
The Atal Pension Yojana was launched on May 9, 2015, with the aim of establishing a robust social security framework for all Indians, particularly those from underprivileged backgrounds and informal sectors. Subscribers have the flexibility to choose from various minimum guaranteed pension options: ₹1,000, ₹2,000, ₹3,000, ₹4,000, or ₹5,000 each month. The subscription cost for this program varies from ₹42 to ₹1,454 per month, depending on the age at which an individual joins the scheme and the selected pension amount.
While the scheme has effectively addressed the needs of many, the focus remains predominantly on the lower pension slab. Nevertheless, increasing the pension options could result in rising subscription costs, which might place additional financial burdens on subscribers.
In light of the current economic situation, the government has decided to maintain the existing terms and conditions of the APY without increasing the pension amounts or subscription fees. This move aims to ensure that the scheme continues to be accessible to the vast majority of its subscribers.
