Government Boosts MSMEs with Online Registration Portal
The Indian government has made significant strides in supporting micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) with the launch of the online Udyam Registration Portal on July 1, 2020. Since its inception, over 7.28 crore MSMEs have completed their registration, positioning them to take advantage of various government benefits. These include access to formal credit and opportunities for government procurement, enhancing their growth potential.
As the initiative progresses, more than 50 API integrations with various organizations have been established. The information gathered through this portal is invaluable, influencing policy design and enhancing the overall efficacy of government programs aimed at MSMEs.
Addressing Concerns of MSME Stakeholders
The government is continuously responsive to the needs of MSME stakeholders, actively working to eliminate challenges and barriers that hinder the sector’s growth. Key issues being addressed include the digitization and digitalization of services and programs, the establishment of single-window clearances, and the simplification of procedures to promote Ease of Doing Business (EODB).
Several initiatives have emerged from the Ministry of MSME to support these objectives. Programs such as MSME SAMBANDH, the Green Investment and Financing for Transformation Scheme (MSE-GIFT), and the Circular Economy Promotion and Investment Scheme (MSE-SPICE) are just a few examples. These initiatives aim to provide financing and sustainable development opportunities, fostering a robust environment for MSMEs.
Empowering Women-Led Enterprises
As of November 30, 2025, approximately 2.86 crore women-led MSMEs have registered through the Udyam portal. This empowerment is a crucial step toward closing credit gaps and addressing skill shortages, allowing both micro and women-led enterprises to access vital resources, including finance, markets, and technology. These measures specifically target the needs of businesses situated in remote areas, bolstering their competitiveness.
The Minister of State for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises, Sushri Shobha Karandlaje, shared this information in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha, reaffirming the government’s commitment to enhancing the MSME sector.
