Priyadarshan and Pankaj Tripathi Set to Reunite for a Full-Fledged Comedy After 15 Years

When Paresh Rawal briefly stepped away from the much-anticipated Hera Pheri 3, social media buzzed with suggestions to replace him with Pankaj Tripathi. However, Rawal’s return quelled those discussions. In an exciting turn of events, filmmaker Priyadarshan has announced a reunion with Tripathi for a new comedy project, marking their first collaboration in over 15 years. This film promises to showcase Tripathi in a light-hearted role, diverging from their previous work together.

Priyadarshan and Tripathi’s Long-Awaited Collaboration

Priyadarshan confirmed the news during an interview with Mid-Day, expressing his enthusiasm about working with Tripathi again. The director reminisced about their last project, *Aakrosh* (2010), where Tripathi portrayed a hitman. In this upcoming, yet-untitled film, Tripathi will take on a completely different character, one that is both lovable and comedic. Priyadarshan emphasized the shift in tone, stating that the film will be a broad, situational comedy reminiscent of his earlier successes like *Hungama* (2003) and *Hera Pheri* (2000). He praised Tripathi as one of the finest actors in the industry, highlighting the joy of collaborating with him once more.

The film is still in the writing phase, with Priyadarshan working diligently to finalize the script. He mentioned that two additional actors will join the cast, but their roles will be confirmed only after the script is completed. This careful approach reflects Priyadarshan’s commitment to delivering a well-crafted comedy that resonates with audiences.

Upcoming Projects and Shooting Schedule

Priyadarshan is currently busy with a packed schedule. He recently completed filming the action thriller *Haiwaan*, which stars Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan. Looking ahead, he has two major releases planned for 2026: *Bhooth Bangla*, a supernatural thriller featuring Akshay Kumar, Tabu, and Wamiqa Gabbi, and *Haiwaan*. If everything goes according to plan, Priyadarshan aims to begin shooting the Tripathi-led comedy by summer 2026.

The director expressed his excitement about returning to the comedy genre after focusing on action and psychological thrillers in recent years. He shared that he had been developing this story for some time and had already pitched it to Tripathi, who responded positively. Priyadarshan’s passion for storytelling remains evident, as he looks forward to bringing this new project to life.

Clarifications on Future Projects

As speculation swirls around a potential sequel to *Bhagam Bhag*, Priyadarshan has clarified his non-involvement in the project. Rumors suggest that Akshay Kumar and Akshaye Khanna may reprise their roles in *Bhagam Bhag 2*, but Priyadarshan confirmed that his next film will solely focus on the comedy with Pankaj Tripathi. He stated, “I am not a part of it. My next movie [to be shot in 2026] is the Pankaj Tripathi-starrer.” Reports indicate that Raaj Shaandilyaa, known for directing *Dream Girl 2* (2023), will take the helm for *Bhagam Bhag 2*.
