Indian Navy to Induct First Indigenous Diving Support Craft
The Indian Navy is set to commission the DSC A20, marking the first vessel of its kind designed and constructed in India. The event is scheduled to take place in Kochi on December 16, 2025, under the oversight of the Southern Naval Command. Vice Admiral Sameer Saxena, the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Southern Naval Command, will officiate the induction ceremony, which promises to significantly boost the Navy’s capabilities in diving and underwater support operations.

DSC A20 serves as the lead ship in a fleet of five Diving Support Crafts being developed by M/s Titagarh Rail Systems Limited (TRSL) in Kolkata. This vessel is specially engineered for a diverse range of diving and underwater operations in coastal regions. Equipped with cutting-edge diving systems, DSC A20 adheres to the highest standards of safety and operational efficiency.
Design and Specifications
With its innovative catamaran hull design, DSC A20 provides enhanced stability, a larger deck area, and better seakeeping abilities. The ship has a displacement of approximately 390 tons and has been meticulously built in accordance with the Naval Rules and Regulations set by the Indian Register of Shipping (IRS). Prior to its commissioning, the vessel undertook comprehensive hydrodynamic analysis and model testing at the Naval Science and Technological Laboratory (NSTL) in Visakhapatnam, ensuring its performance and reliability.
