Annapoorna Interfood Highlights India’s Food Processing Potential
The 17th edition of the Annapoorna Interfood Exhibition, organized by FICCI in partnership with the Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI), took place today in Mumbai, showcasing the vast potential of India’s food processing sector. Avinash Joshi, Secretary of MoFPI, emphasized the industry’s ability to transform agriculture and improve livelihoods, noting the increasing need for enhanced processing and food safety standards to benefit farmers and consumers alike.
Joshi stated, “With rising agricultural productivity and growing domestic demand, we must scale up processing and value addition, or else farmers will lose out on their deserved prosperity, and consumers will miss out on quality choices.” He highlighted the government’s commitment to supporting this sector through various policies, subsidies, and regulations to ensure equitable growth for all stakeholders.
Global Participation and Industry Insights
The Annapoorna Interfood event attracted a diverse group of participants, including food-processing companies, buyers, and trade professionals from countries such as the USA, Europe, UAE, Australia, and several African nations. This gathering provided a platform where international players could explore opportunities within India’s dynamic food market.
During the event, Ms. Nandini Roy Chowdhury, a Principal Consultant at Future Market Insights, presented research indicating that Generation Z is reshaping consumer expectations. Unlike previous generations, Gen Z values transparency and ethical sourcing, expecting brands to clearly disclose their practices or risk losing consumer trust. This shift is influencing everything from food preferences to market trends in household appliances, with the domestic kitchen appliance sector expected to exceed USD 50 billion by 2035.
State-Level Industrial Development
Rajesh Rathod, Executive Director of the Madhya Pradesh Industrial Development Corporation, noted increasing investor interest in food processing in Madhya Pradesh. He cited improved connectivity, infrastructure, and workforce availability as reasons for the state becoming a preferred destination for food-processing enterprises. Rathod pledged support for incoming investors, highlighting the sector’s potential for economic growth.
FICCI’s Assistant Secretary-General, Balvinder Singh Sawhney, also pointed out the significance of platforms like Annapoorna in the post-COVID-19 world. He remarked that the pandemic has heightened consumer demand for quality and safety, and events like these encourage collaboration and innovation in the food supply chain.

Now in its 17th year, the Annapoorna Interfood Exhibition is one of India’s major platforms focused on the food processing industry. Ashwani Pande, CEO of VA exhibitions, highlighted the event’s role in fostering connections among small-scale producers, large companies, exporters, and policymakers. The exhibition not only highlights innovative products but also serves as a key forum for discussing processing standards and food safety protocols enforced by the FSSAI.
