Gujarat Hosts Pre-Summit Conference on AI for Good Governance

In a significant stride towards advancing artificial intelligence (AI) for governance, Chief Minister of Gujarat, Shri Bhupendrabhai Rajnikant Patel, inaugurated the Pre-Summit Conference on AI for Good Governance: Empowering India Digital Future. The event, held at Mahatma Mandir, was jointly organized by the IndiaAI Mission under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India, in collaboration with the Government of Gujarat and the Indian Institute of Technology, Gandhinagar. This conference serves as a precursor to the India–AI Impact Summit 2026, which is slated for February 15-20, 2026, in New Delhi.

The Gandhinagar Regional Pre-Summit placed a spotlight on utilizing AI for good governance and accelerating the digital transformation of India. The event gathered policymakers, industry leaders, and researchers to explore actionable strategies for deploying AI across sectors such as governance, agriculture, healthcare, fintech, and public services. Participants were treated to a curated experience at the AI Experience Zone, which showcased live demonstrations of innovative AI solutions for various sectors, developed collaboratively by IndiaAI and DST Gujarat.

Leaders Emphasize the Power of AI

During his address, Chief Minister Patel articulated the transformative potential of AI, stating, “As the Prime Minister has said, AI is a powerful tool that will redefine quality, economy, security, and society. Regional AI Conferences like this one are pivotal for ensuring that development reaches every district and every language.” He emphasized the importance of collaboration among leaders from the AI industry, startups, scholars, and researchers to harness AI for the betterment of society.

Echoing these sentiments, Deputy Chief Minister Shri Harsh Rameshbhai Sanghavi remarked, “AI has become the new electricity powering every sector of Gujarat’s growth. Guided by our Prime Minister’s vision and Chief Minister Patel’s leadership, Gujarat is ready to turn every dream into action.” Furthermore, Minister for Science & Technology, Shri Arjunbhai Devabhai Modhwadia, highlighted the significance of initiatives like the Gujarat AI Stack and the Cloud Adoption Guidelines in laying the groundwork for AI-driven governance and improved citizen services.

Key Announcements and Future Directions

Shri Abhishek Singh, Additional Secretary at MeitY and CEO of IndiaAI Mission, delivered a keynote address focusing on the theme of AI for Good Governance. He underlined that the India AI Impact Summit 2026 presents a valuable opportunity to showcase India’s advancements in AI and to democratize its benefits across the nation.

The inaugural session also featured prominent figures, including Shri Manoj Kumar Das, Chief Secretary of Gujarat, and Smt. Ponugumatla Bharathi, Secretary of the Department of Science & Technology, Government of Gujarat. A major highlight was the launch of the AI Stacks, along with the signing of memorandums of understanding (MoUs) with global and regional AI partners. Additionally, the rollout of the Cloud Adoption Policy 2025 marks a crucial step in advancing digital infrastructure and AI preparedness across the state.

The conference was filled with engaging keynote sessions led by experts from the IndiaAI Mission, Bhashini, Google Cloud, Microsoft, IBM Research, NVIDIA, Oracle, and AWS. These sessions delved into the transformative capabilities of AI across various sectors and future innovations in generative AI. The insights and recommendations gleaned from this Gandhinagar Regional Conference will play a significant role in shaping the frameworks and outcomes of the upcoming India–AI Impact Summit 2026, reinforcing India’s leadership in a scalable and inclusive AI-powered future.
